Dr. C. Roy Stauffer
A
native of Florida, Dr. C. Roy Stauffer is a third generation Disciples of Christ
minister. He received his undergraduate education from Transylvania College
where he majored in Religion and Philosophy as well as English and Education.
He then earned the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Vanderbilt
Divinity School. While at Vanderbilt he served Sinking Fork Christian Church
as a student minister. Upon graduation he went to Geneva, Switzerland, where
he spent six months studying world religions. Then, it was on to Memphis, Tennessee
where he has spent the last 35 years at the Lindenwood Christian Church, first
as Associate Minister then as Senior Minister. Dr. Stauffer is the father of
Woodmont's Senior Minister, Clay Stauffer. They worked together for two years
at Lindenwood before Clay was called to Woodmont. They had always hoped that
one day, they would be able to work together again in the same church, and both
are thrilled that it has now happened.
Known as a "teaching preacher," Dr. Stauffer has always had a love of teaching. Besides teaching in the church he has taught on the adjunct faculty of Memphis Theological Seminary and Princeton Theological Seminary. He has also coordinated teaching workshops for ministers and church leaders from across the country. Here at Woodmont he is the Associate Minister for Adult Education, Discipleship, and Pastoral Counseling. Dr. Stauffer loves to teach the Bible and spirituality. He also has a passion for history, biography, church planning and leadership. A large portion of his library (now available at Woodmont) contains vast resources on these subjects. Dr. Stauffer whole-heartedly believes that we are to love the Lord with "all of our mind" as well as our heart and soul and strength.
