Woodmont Christian Church – a Beacon and a Bridge.

Woodmont is a landmark church in the community and among the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We act as both a beacon (Matt. 5:14-16) and a bridge (I Cor. 12:13) to a new life together in Jesus Christ.

To accomplish this, we seek to move from:

  • Less “church” to more “Jesus” (deepening spirituality)
  • Less “confusion” to more “connection” (stronger communication)
  • Less “meetings” to more “ministry” (streamlined structure)

    1) Less “church” and more Jesus (P.10)

  • Deepening the committed core of members with a Christ-focused faith approach
  • Consistently excellent worship -- pulpit work that touches head and heart (P.13)
  • Move from being a church with small groups to a church of small groups (P. 15)
  • Continual track of leadership developmentIntentionally creating all-church events to continue the connection of a larger community
  • Serious focus on spiritual practices
  • Hands-on lay ministry
  • Living the vision—worshipful work (P.21)

    2) Less confusion and more connection (P.25)

  • Create standing communications committee to provide touch point, process and liaison to staff (P.28)
  • Create consistency and integration of message and media for both internal and external audiences
  • Update data management tools and processes
  • Update visual identity package
  • Consider new signage (P.37)
  • Overhaul Web site (both design and content)

3)Less meeting and more ministry (P.42)

  • Reduce Board size to 12 (including six at-large members) (P.44)
  • Implement staggered two-year terms for Board members
  • Senior Pastor empowered for Ministry, Mission, Staff decisions
  • consolidate Divisions into 4 Ministry teams: (P.44) Connect  -  Resource  - Equip  - Worship
  • Current size of Elders and Deacons remain the same
