We have now moved into the month of November, so I wanted to write and give you a few general updates of plans we are making here at the church. Health and safety continues to be a top priority in everything we do. At the same time, the church must press on and live out its mission.

• Rev. Susan Beaumont will lead our Virtual Fall Leadership Retreat this year. The first session is on Saturday morning, Nov. 14 at 9 a.m. and the second is on Monday evening Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. She will be talking about how churches are adapting during Covid and what it means to lead in an age of uncertainty. The work of the church must carry on. We expect our Board, Elders, and Deacons to participate and it is also open to any members who are interested – both sessions are on Zoom.

• During the month of November, we are taking advantage of the nice weather and we are offering multiple worship options. This includes our 9 a.m. drive-in service, our 10:30 sanctuary service, a new sunset vespers service at 3:30 p.m. with The Bridge band at Campbell West, and The Gathering on Sunday evening, November 22.

• This Sunday, Nov. 8th, we will also do our Blessing of the Animals service at 3 p.m. at Campbell West.

• Starting in Advent which begins Sunday, November 29th, we will no longer offer the drive-in service because of colder weather, but we will offer TWO socially distant worship services in the sanctuary – 9:15 and 10:30. The online service and live streaming will continue. Hanging of the Greens will be held outside at 4 p.m. on November 29th – very similar to our drive-in service format. We plan to light up many of our outdoor trees and sing the Christmas carols that we all love to begin the Season. Sit on your tailgate or bring a chair.

• During Advent, we are planning to offer a Children’s Sunday School hour during the 9:15 service recognizing that not all families will choose to participate. Masks and safety protocols will be in place for this, just like we have at our pre-school.

• Walk Thru Bethlehem will not take place this year. It is simply not safe to have that many people in one place. I think taking a year off will help all of us miss and appreciate this great tradition of our church.

• We are still making our plans for Christmas Eve but I can tell you that there will be a few different worship options which may include virtual, the outdoor chapel, and the sanctuary.

• This is the final year of our Capital Campaign “Building for Our Future.” Construction should be completed by Christmas and we plan to be in the building at the beginning of 2021. We are kindly asking that members complete their financial commitments by the end of 2020 or the end of January 2021. We will be offering tours of the new facility very soon. It looks great, and once you see the inside, you will be blown away!

This has certainly been a challenging year but Woodmont has carried on. Thank you for continuing to support the church financially. I encourage you to stay engaged and connected. Growing in our faith and in our spiritual lives is a decision that we all make for ourselves. We are doing our very best to make this possible.
