Woodmont Board Approves Vision & Master Plan

This is a very exciting time to be a part of Woodmont Christian Church. Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” One minister paraphrased this and said, “Without a vision, people will go to another parish.” For the past 18 months, we have been prayerfully visioning for the future of our church. Our visioning committee met regularly throughout all of 2024 and then made specific recommendations to our board. We have worked closely with Hastings Architecture Firm to look at our campus and identify opportunities for future expansion and growth. Significant input has been received from the congregation and the WCC board has now approved that future vision to keep our momentum going. The WCC board met on July 29th and approved the vision and master plan. We are ready to roll out some exciting plans for the future to the larger congregation in the coming weeks.
Many of the challenges that we have faced in recent years as a church are “good challenges:” overcrowding at the early worship services; a growing number of children and families coming to our church; hundreds of new members; significant growth in our youth ministry; severe parking shortages on campus on Sunday mornings; and substantial strains placed on Drowota Hall with everything that happens in that space (breakfasts, dinners, basketball, pickleball, WCPS, and various special events). All of this has been the result of intentional planning and research done by some very talented leaders. As we look ahead to the next three to five years of ministry, here is what we are hoping to accomplish, all in line with our mission (Seeking, Sharing, Serving) and core values (Christ-centered, Vibrant Worship, Transforming Groups, Impactful Mission). Here are the primary goals of the vision.
• Develop the Campbell West portion of our property (2.3 acres that we own)
• Heavily invest in our youth, children’s, family, and YP ministries for the future; these ministries have significant momentum right now
• Build a multi-use gymnasium that could also be used for worship, speakers, and large events; this will relieve pressure on Drowota Hall
• Build a new home base for our growing youth ministry that will set it up for the future
• Free up additional space for our children’s ministries (the current youth space)
• Add 107 additional parking spaces for Sundays
• Build a Connection Cafe that will serve as a hub for gathering and fellowship
• Build a large, covered porch for fellowship and group gatherings
• Create a common green space between the buildings for outdoor events and activities
• Provide adequate space for Woodmont to grow and flourish in the future
The pictures that you see in this edition of The Spire are only renderings – not complete designs. We still have lots of planning and design to do in the coming months with Hastings. It is important to me that the congregation knows what we are working towards. We are in the process of talking to contractors which will enable us to get a much better idea of cost. However, significant financial commitments have already been made towards this project. Much more information will be coming out. There will be a capital campaign later this fall that will allow us to achieve these goals. Also, we will be having information sessions for both the leadership and the church at large in the coming weeks. We are already having program conversations around what to do with our existing ministries that are currently being housed at Campbell West.
Our best years at Woodmont are still ahead of us. I believe that. It will take all of us working together. I am excited about what God has in store for our church!
