76th Birthday Reception

Celebrate 76 years of ministry with your church family during a special reception in the Gathering Hall from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Woodmont was “planted” in 1943 by a group of members from Vine Street Christian Church and Dr. Frank Drowota came on a leap of faith from First Christian Church in Mayfield, KY to serve as the founding pastor from 1943-1973. The founding members of our church signed their names to a document called, “The Covenant” which now hangs in the narthex. It reads: “We do hereby solemnly covenant with God and one another to band ourselves together to establish a Christian Church in this community for ourselves and posterity. We pledge our time, substance, talents and prayers to the end that His Church shall be a house of prayer for all people, a fellowship of those who believe in Christ and strive to follow his teachings, and a part of the Church Universal. We aim to erect a suitable edifice for divine worship, for Christian education, for stewardship, for world missions, and to minister to the spiritual needs of the community. All of this…. we covenant to be and do under the guidance of God and the leadership of Jesus Christ our Lord.” As we begin our 77th year together, may we recommit ourselves to standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, grateful for our rich history and excited for an even stronger future of serving this community and world!

Soul Stories: Writing as a Spiritual Practice

The Boardroom 3601 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN, TN, United States

Amy Lyles Wilson "Soul Stories: Writing as a Spiritual Practice" workshop Oct. 25 & 26 Story coach and spiritual director Amy Lyles Wilson will be holding a spiritual writing workshop at Woodmont from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, Oct. 25, and from 9:00 AM to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Boardroom. The workshop is free but space is limited to twenty, so register ASAP and don't miss out! Childcare is available and dinner is provided Friday with bagels Saturday morning. Along with centering prayer, labyrinth walking, and spending time in nature, writing can be a meaningful practice that enhances our spiritual lives. Writing as a spiritual practice is not about product, it’s about process. The process of discovery, for starters, and the process of relationship, both with yourself and with God. There’s no agenda, no outline, no concern about blog followers or publication opportunities. There is you, and the page, and the Divine. From penning your prayers to keeping a gratitude list, tracing the arc of your religious journey to crafting a lament, writing as a spiritual practice is open to all, regardless of skill—or confidence—level. It can help you hear, and really listen to, that still small voice that often gets drowned out by the world or stuffed down by our own unwillingness to entertain it. Use the page for that. Use the page for your questions, your longings, your wonderings about God. Treat your writing as a sacred act, worthy of your time, your energy, and your heart. Like prayer. Please join us as we experiment with various kinds of spiritual writing through prompts, readings, and resources. You will not be compelled to read your work aloud, and this is not about critique. It’s about community. REGISTER FOR SPIRITUAL WRITING WORKSHOP
