Soul Stories: Writing as a Spiritual Practice

The Boardroom 3601 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN, TN, United States

Amy Lyles Wilson "Soul Stories: Writing as a Spiritual Practice" workshop Oct. 25 & 26 Story coach and spiritual director Amy Lyles Wilson will be holding a spiritual writing workshop at Woodmont from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, Oct. 25, and from 9:00 AM to noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Boardroom. The workshop is free but space is limited to twenty, so register ASAP and don't miss out! Childcare is available and dinner is provided Friday with bagels Saturday morning. Along with centering prayer, labyrinth walking, and spending time in nature, writing can be a meaningful practice that enhances our spiritual lives. Writing as a spiritual practice is not about product, it’s about process. The process of discovery, for starters, and the process of relationship, both with yourself and with God. There’s no agenda, no outline, no concern about blog followers or publication opportunities. There is you, and the page, and the Divine. From penning your prayers to keeping a gratitude list, tracing the arc of your religious journey to crafting a lament, writing as a spiritual practice is open to all, regardless of skill—or confidence—level. It can help you hear, and really listen to, that still small voice that often gets drowned out by the world or stuffed down by our own unwillingness to entertain it. Use the page for that. Use the page for your questions, your longings, your wonderings about God. Treat your writing as a sacred act, worthy of your time, your energy, and your heart. Like prayer. Please join us as we experiment with various kinds of spiritual writing through prompts, readings, and resources. You will not be compelled to read your work aloud, and this is not about critique. It’s about community. REGISTER FOR SPIRITUAL WRITING WORKSHOP

Youth Fall Retreat at Bethany Hills

Bethany Hills 1080 Bethany Hills Rd, Kingston Springs, TN, United States

The deadline to sign up for our November 1-3 Fall Retreat at Bethany Hills is October 25. You can sign up at tndisciples.org/bethanyhillscamp. Your students do not want to miss one of the best weekends of the year!   Also, we need you! We have received word from the Region office that they still need adult chaperones (especially male chaperones). Woodmont brings the most students to this retreat by far and we need to represent ourselves well.   This is one of the highlights of the year for our youth. They love Bethany Hills and it is truly amazing to see the ways that even these short weekend retreats can impact their spiritual growth and development. We would love for you to be able to experience it. Woodmont Youth will cover the cost of the weekend for adult chaperones and you will get to serve in a way that is meaningful to the life of Woodmont Christian Church. If you are at all interested, please contact Chris at ccox@woodmontcc.org as soon as you can.
